Life on Board a Historic Sailing Ship

A school trip aboard a traditional Holland Sail ship is always an adventure. There is so much to discover – from learning about the ship itself to exploring nature and the picturesque harbor towns around the IJsselmeer and Markermeer.

Reaching the next destination, perhaps visiting a disco in the evening, or having a barbecue on the seabed – everything needs to be planned and executed together. Will the night be spent in a harbor town? Or will the anchor be dropped in the middle of the water, temporarily turning the ship into a floating island?

Everyone needs to lend a hand – setting and lowering sails, navigating, and, of course, kitchen duties like meal preparation and cleaning up the galley.

These are fantastic days on board. At night, gentle waves rock everyone to sleep. The experiences and impressions remain memorable – often discussed long after everyone has returned to their daily routines.

Rooms & Equipment on Board

Our traditional sailing ships offer up to 48 sleeping places in cabins. The smaller ships start with 12 berths. It is also possible to combine multiple ships into a small fleet. Regardless of which ship you choose, the cabins on board are modern and feature two or more beds and storage space for luggage.

The saloon below deck serves as the central common area on board. It is comfortably furnished with seating, tables, often a small library, and various games. Clean and well-maintained toilets and showers that meet modern standards are available. The number of sanitary facilities depends on the size of the ship.

School trips with Holland Sail take students to charming destinations around the IJsselmeer and Markermeer, the UNESCO World Heritage National Park Wadden Sea, and the West Frisian Islands.
