Sailing with family and friends
Family getaways are a nice way of getting together with the family and spending quality time that our busy lifes usually get in the way of. The same goes for a fun trip with friends. A retreat to the water is one of the best ways to get quality time. You'll strengthen the bonds with your family or friends.
Once aboard, you'll all be headed in the same direction. The wind and the tide are determining factors for your heading, but there are a few common options.
- Departing from Harlingen you can sail directly onto the Waddenzee and be completely surrounded by nature. "The Wad" is one of the most impressive parts of The Netherlands with its tide-based nature, 'walking' isles and - of course - seals.
- Departing from Enkuizen, the ships set sail on the famour IJsselmeer, a former sea that has been closed off by the Afsluitdijk, a 32km long dam. Longer trips might allow you to head onto the Waddenzee as well.
The low tide water levels allow the ship to sit on the sea floor with you on it. The ship can lie at anchor and wait for the tide to lower. You'll have time to enjoy the sun and the weather, and when the ship reaches the wad floor, you dan disembark and walk around. This is truly a unique, one-of-a-kind experience.
Of course it is also possible to visit the West Frisian Islands and scenic villages around the IJsselmeer. It is all up to you!
